Frequently Asked Questions

Should I attend a class or private sessions?

It depends! If your ACT score is between 16 and 24, we recommend starting with a class. Each class covers essential ACT content, strategies, and tips. If you want to prepare thoroughly, consider scheduling one or two private sessions as well. If your score is already 25 or higher, you know what you're doing and just need to fill some gaps in your knowledge – private sessions are the way to go. Private sessions are also a good option if you have a free period during the school day, or you just prefer one-on-one instruction.

How many sessions should I schedule?

As many as you like! Most students attend one-hour sessions once a week for a few weeks before a test. If this is your first time prepping for the ACT, we recommend at least six hours in total, but you may need more or less time, depending on your goals.

When should I schedule my sessions?

We recommend scheduling four to six weeks before your test date, but you can call or email anytime! Just be aware that if you wait until the week before your test, we will most likely be booked.

Do I need to purchase any materials?

Nope! We provide all the study materials you will need, but if you already have an ACT practice book, bring it with you to your sessions! We highly recommend the Official ACT Prep Guide.

How do I pay for my sessions?

Checks and cash are always welcome! We also accept Visa, MasterCard, Discover, and Venmo!

What if I am unable to attend a session?

Life happens! If you are ill or have an emergency to deal with, just call or email to let us know. However, if you need to reschedule a private session for other reasons, we ask that you notify us at least 24 hours in advance. If you do not provide adequate notice or fail to show up for your scheduled session, the following cancellation policy will apply.

  • First missed session: No charge

  • Second missed session: $20 cancellation fee

  • Third missed session: You will be charged the regular fee for your missed session.

What if I have to miss a class meeting?

We allow students to schedule a one-time, one-hour make-up session at no charge if they need to miss a class meeting.

How much score improvement can I expect?

It depends! Students who attend a class or private sessions often improve by two, three, or even four points. However, every student is different, and every test is a bit different. Your results will depend on a variety of factors, including how much you practice on your own and how you feel on test day. We make it our mission to ensure that you walk into your test center with as much knowledge and confidence as possible!

What calculator should I use for the ACT?

If you already have a calculator that you are comfortable using, it may be best to stick with what you know. However, if you are looking for an easy-to-use calculator that will give you an edge in math, we recommend the TI-36X Pro. It only costs about $20, and it solves equations for you. Don't worry – we'll show you how to use it!

Where should I take the ACT?

It really doesn't matter! When you take a national ACT, you and thousands of students across the country are taking the same test. The questions and score scale will be the same for students in Alabama, Mississippi, Tennessee, and every other state. However, it is not a bad idea to test in different locations, as a change in scenery can help you stay alert and focused!
